Engineering and Engineering Design and Technology Academy

Message from the Principal

Northside High School, which opened its doors to students for the first time on August 19, 2002, is Columbus’ newest high school. Northside is a comprehensive high school which offers a rigorous college preparatory program, including both honors and advanced placement courses, and state-of-the-art technical and career programs. Students in the college preparatory program have numerous opportunities to expand their knowledge base with technology programs and earn a “dual diploma” if they desire. Northside High School’s academy program, Engineering and Engineering Design, is linked to the national program, Project Lead the Way, and is an exciting addition to the courses offered in Muscogee County School District. Students enrolled in this special program have opportunities to specialize in Engineering, Architecture, Information Technology, or Engineering Design. They are required to participate in community service and have many opportunities to participate in competitions and extracurricular activities related to the engineering field.

At Northside the emphasis is on giving students a quality education in a safe, supportive, technology-rich environment. Freshmen must take a computer applications course that is designed to teach them basic computer skills with applications. Students learn goal-setting, time management, computer and study skills that will make them more successful in their academic and elective courses.

We hope you will come by and visit us at Northside High School, Home of the Patriots.

Mission

The mission of Northside High School is to provide a safe, mutually respectful, enjoyable learning environment for students in order for them to develop and grow intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally.  We believe that diversity, individuality and self-directed learning are necessary to encourage students to maximize their potential and become contributing members of society who will meet the challenges of the future.

Parental Involvement

The PTSA is very active at Northside.  They help sponsor the Open House each semester and are involved in special events and rewards for students.  PTA parents volunteer in the front office and chaperone students on field trips.  The fundraising activities of the PTA provide monies for special projects to beautify the campus, assist with parent-school communication and other student needs.

Academy Program/Application

Northside High School’s Engineering and Engineering Design and Technology Academy offers the best, most intensive and enjoyable pre-engineering preparation available. Summer programs and partnerships with regional universities and technical schools will provide a rich exposure and enhance educational opportunities for the students in the Academy. From Introduction to Engineering Design, where the student will render and construct simple machines up to complex interdependent systems, to Digital Electronics, where students construct circuits virtually and in reality, to the final design and development project as a senior, students will be immersed in a thorough preparation for further college and technical training.

We encourage application by students who have a strong background in mathematics, and remind students that good reading and study skills are requisite. Students interested in any area of engineering, design, design technology, architecture, or similar related and allied areas are the target group of students for this exciting and technological program of excellence.
