Early college high schools are small schools where a student can earn both a high school diploma and two years of college credit towards a bachelor's degree. Such schools have the potential to improve high school graduation rates and better prepare students for family-supporting careers by
  • Changing the structure of the high school years
  • Compressing the number of years to earn a college degree
  • Removing financial and other barriers to college
  • Focusing on students and their individual needs so that they can make a smooth transition into postsecondary education

The Early College Academy of Columbus, which is located on the Kendrick High School campus, offers a new type of learning institution for underserved youth by

  • Providing the rigor, depth, and intensity of college-level work in high school
  • Inspiring average, underachieving, and well-prepared high school students to work hard and stretch themselves intellectually
  • Incorporating an incentive system rewarding performance with access to college-level courses
  • Eliminating the need for young people to select and apply to a postsecondary institution during the high school senior year
  • Saving money and time by integrating high school and college-level work
