NORTHSIDE WINS SECOND PLACE
IN GEORGIA STATE LITERARY MEET
|
On March 15, 2008, Northside won the second-place trophy in the Georgia
State Literary Meet Competition held at Houston County High School. Region
high schools competed in both music and dramatic events. Olivia Greene’s
first place award for Girls’ Solo and Laura Granger’s third place award for
Girls’ Dramatic Interpretation earned Northside the second place state
award.
Olivia, a junior at Northside, performed two songs from memory, one of
them in a foreign language. In categories of accuracy, tone, diction,
rhythm, phrasing, interpretation and presentation, Olivia scored higher than
any other soprano in the state competition. She has also been selected to
attend the Governor’s Honors Program this summer in music.
Laura, also a junior at Northside, memorized a monologue from Lily
Tomlin’s bag lady in New York, a selection from Tomlin’s "Signs of
Intelligent Life in the Universe." Her performance was awarded first place
in Girls’ Dramatic Interpretation at the Regional Literary Meet and third
place in the Sate Literary Meet.
During the April Board meeting, Olivia, her choral director, Janet Maple,
and her principal, James Wilson, were recognized by the Board.
