KENDRICK WINS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
IN GIRLS AAA BASKETBALL

The celebration continues at Kendrick and throughout the community as the Lady Cherokees Basketball team wins the 2008 AAA State Basketball Championship with a score of 79 to 67 against the Carrollton Trojans. The Lady Cherokees are the third girls’ basketball team to end with a perfect season in the last 10 years, and the first MCSD girls’ team to win a state championship.

Head Coach Sterling Hicks says, “Hard work really paid off.” This is Hicks eighth year at Kendrick and his seventh year as head coach.

The Lady Cherokees and their coaches were recognized at the Board of Education meeting Monday, March 17.

Team members are Bonita Harris, Kym Stamps, Treianca Colbert, Tangina Conner, Ashlee Barley, Chelsea Taylor, Simone High, Quineka Moffett, Mukia Myrick, Janai Merritt, Jazmin Thomas, Jakiera Matthews, Erica Stanley, Keondra Barnes, Deshanti Lewis, Porsche Prowell, Janae McKinney, Emma Washington, Shavondolyn Smith, Lacee Hollis, Chris Bass, and LaShawnda Adams.

The head coach is Sterling Hicks; assistant coaches are Rodriguez Robinson and Anson Hundley.
