Representative Carolyn Hugley
GAE Legislator of the Year

At the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE), Annual Spring Representative
Assembly, Representative Carolyn Hugley was honored as 2008
Legislator of the Year. The award was presented on April 19 at the
Renaissance Concourse Airport Hotel in College Park and read in part ...
for Supporting Excellence in Public Education and Educators on the Front
Line. At the May Board meeting, she was introduced to the Board by
representatives of GAE.
Representative Hugley was honored as 2008 Legislator of the Year in light of
her legislative achievements and in gratitude for her work on behalf of
public education and our members. She has worked tirelessly to fully fund
public school education. Since 2002, public schools throughout Georgia have
had austerity cuts amounting to over $141 million dollars. Those cuts have
meant a shortage in school supplies as well as trained certified educators
within the public school system.
Representative Hugley has worked closely with GAE to aid in solving public
school funding and to keep those tax dollars allocated to local school
systems in public schools, rather than privately funded institutions.
Because of her leadership, Representative Hugley has won the admiration and
respect of her peers in the Legislature, GAE members, Georgians and
constituents in her district.
