ARNOLD STUDENT NAMED
2008 GEORGIA READER OF THE YEAR
Jack Hooper, a seventh-grade magnet student at Arnold Magnet Academy, has
been named the 2008 Georgia Reader of the Year. Hooper and his language arts
teacher, Ronda Allen, were honored at a reception hosted by the Georgia
Reading Association at the International Reading Conference, in Atlanta on
Tuesday, May 6, 2008.
Jack has read 74 books (over six millions words) this school year. He
reads an average of at least 17 hours a week. His essay on “What Reading
Means to Me” was chosen as the MCSD winner and represented the district’s
Reading Council at the state level, competing against thousands of other
essays submitted by middle schools from all over the state.
