2007 Columbus Regional Science and Engineering Fair
Regional students in grades six through twelve competed at the 2007
Columbus Regional Science and Engineering Fair (CRSEF) to represent the
region at the 59th Georgia State Science and Engineering Fair competition.
The 2007 Georgia State Science and Engineering Fair (GSEF) will be held
March 29 at the Classic Center in Athens, Georgia.
Twelve high school and fifteen middle school students were selected to
advance to the state competition. Collins Anderson and Michael Byers
represent the Best of Fair, Senior Division. James Mummert and Mary-Ann
Ionascu are the Junior Division Best of Fair winners. Amanda Massengale is
the first annual Susan Squiers award winner for her demonstration of
everyday science.
The Columbus Regional Science and Engineering Fair is hosted by Columbus
State University and sponsored by the Muscogee County School District. CRSEF
provides an opportunity for students to exhibit their creative and critical
thinking abilities as they compete for recognition in selected science
categories. In February, the 2007 CRSEF welcomed over 200 students and their
projects to the Elizabeth Turner Bradley Center. Projects competing at the
regional fair are chosen through school-level competitions. Students are
judged on creative ability, scientific thought, thoroughness, skill and
clarity. Student interviews demonstrate the students’ basic understandings
of their research and project conclusions.
