Little League World Champions
at September Board Meeting

The Columbus Little League Team won the final
game of the Little League World Series Monday, August 28, in South
Williamsport, Pennsylvania, by defeating Japan, the international champions,
in the World Championship game. "Columbus Northern" became the U.S. Little
League Champions with a 7-3 victory against Beaverton, Oregon, on August 26.
During the September Board meeting, Dr. Phillips
and Dr. Polleys presented the team members with framed resolutions of
appreciation, and the team gave autographed baseballs to the Board.
Columbus is the second Georgia team to win the
World Series. In 1983, a team from Marietta won by defeating a team from
Latin America. In 1999, a team from neighboring Phenix City won the U.S.
championship but lost to Japan in the final game.
The 11 members of the U. S. team are from
Columbus. Six of the team members are from Midland Middle School: Kyle
Carter, Brady Hamilton, Ryan Lang, Kyle Rovig, Patrick Stallings, and Cody
Walker. Josh Lester, Mason Meyers, and J. T. Phillips are from Blackmon Road
Middle School. Matthew Hollis attends Calvary Christian, and Matthew
Kuhlenberg is home-schooled.
