2006-2007 Distinguished Schools Announced
Twenty-seven MSCD schools have been identified
as 2006-2007 Distinguished Schools. This recognition is authorized in
Section 117 of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and includes monetary
awards for qualifying schools. During the February Board meeting,
principals of these schools were recognized by Chief Academic Officer Dr.
Peggy Connell.

Recognition is based on the number of
consecutive years a school makes adequate yearly progress (AYP). Schools
that have made AYP for three consecutive years receive a certificate of
recognition. Title I schools that have made AYP for four or more years will
receive a monetary award; non-Title I school are not eligible to receive
monetary awards. In addition, schools that have made AYP for five or more
years are invited to the Georgia Department of Education Schools of
Excellence Celebration that is held in May at the Georgia World Congress
Center in Atlanta.
