Columbus High Freshman
Places First in State Cross Country Meet

Charlie Sparks, a freshman at Columbus High
School, placed first in the State at the AAA Cross Country State Meet on
November 11 in Carrolton, Georgia. His time was 16:21; he won the meet
significantly ahead of any competitors. During the December Board meeting,
Chief Student Affairs Officer Eddie Obleton introduced him to the Board.
Attending with Charlie were Lynda Korcha, Assistant Cross Country Coach, and
Randy Whitt, Head Cross Country Coach.
Charlie also competed in the Footlocker
Southeastern Regional Championship Competition held November 25 in
Charlotte, North Carolina. He placed second in the freshman division, which
qualifies him for the All-South Freshman Cross Country Team.
