Columbus High Wins State One-Act Play Competition

Columbus High School won the 2006-2007
Georgia High School Association
AAA One-Act Play competition in Rabun Gap on November 11. This the
second time in four years that CHS has achieved this honor. During the
December Board Meeting, the director, Paul Hampton, the principal, Susan
Bryant, and three representatives from the cast were introduced to the
Board. The cast members present (left to right) were Ashley Jay, Tosheka
O'Neal , and Kelly Rainer.
At the State competition, the judges described
the the presentation of Truman Capote's “The Grass Harp” as “moving,”
‘beautiful to watch,” “well acted by talented students,” and “the complete
package.” At the state level, the judges recognize only two individuals from
all the shows. Tosheka O'Neal was one of the two; she was named the best
actress in the competition.
At Region competition, the cast was named Region Champions. Tosheka was
named Best Actress in the Region, while Kara Felton and Melissa Saint-Amand
were named to the All Star Cast.
The cast first competed in sub-region competition, winning first place
and recognition for Jake Young as Best Actor and Tosheka O’Neal as
Best Actress. Judges also recognized three other cast members as “All
Stars”: Kara Felton, Derek Parker, and Alex Willis.
Other faculty members involved in the competitions were Jim Cypert,
Technical Director; Jane Collins, Costume, Props and Make-Up Designer; and
Nolan Bishop, who wrote and conducted six original pieces of music for the
show.
