Clubview Approved as Charter School

On September 14, 2006, the State Board of Education approved Clubview
Elementary as a Charter School. Clubview is the first school in MCSD to be
named a Charter School and the first public elementary school in Georgia to
be granted authorization to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary
Years Program. The Charter supports the implementation of Clubview’s
International Baccalaureate Program, which will equip students with social,
intellectual, and critical skills that will enable them to reach their
potential as adults in our global society.
Adele Lindsey is the principal of Clubview and has been employed by MCSD
for 36 years. She served as Assistant Principal at Clubview and Johnson from
1991-1995 and has been the principal at Clubview since 1995. She and several
of her teachers were introduced to the Board at the September meeting by Dr.
Peggy Connell, Chief Academic Officer.
A charter school is a public school that operates according to the terms
of a charter, or contract, approved by a local board of education and the
State Board of Education. A charter school may request waivers from
provisions of Title 20 of Georgia state law and any state or local rule,
regulation, policy, or procedure relating to schools in the school district.
In exchange for this flexibility, the charter school is bound by contract to
be held accountable for meeting the performance-based objectives specified
in the charter.
