MCSD Earns Recommendation for District Accreditation
The Muscogee County School District received a recommendation for
District Accreditation following a three-and-a-half-day evaluation, October
7-10, 2007, by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on
Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI).
Members of the Quality Assurance Review team made the decision to
recommend to the SACS CASI Board of Directors that the Muscogee County
School District be awarded District Accreditation as a quality school system
that has all eligible elementary, middle, and secondary schools accredited.
District Accreditation is the highest level of accreditation that a school
system can receive from the SACS CASI organization. Accreditation is the
process of helping institutions improve through a systematic program of
evaluation, assuring that an institution not only meets quality standards,
but also demonstrates a continuous commitment to providing quality education
programs that are aimed at improving student performance.
“We thank the Quality Assurance Review team for their commendations and
recommendations, as well as all of our stakeholders including our employees,
parents, students and the community for being committed to high standards
and continuous improvement,” said Dr. John Phillips, Superintendent of
Education.
Some Benefits of District Accreditation:
- Students benefit through the accreditation process because the
district has committed to raising student performance and will be held
accountable for improving student learning on a continuous basis.
- Schools and districts benefit through objective peer review,
attainment of high standards, and engagement in continuous improvement.
- The accreditation process helps schools and districts bring together
all the segments of the school and district to improve student and
organizational performance.
The next step is to get approval from the Advanced-ED Board and Trustees.
Upon approval, the school district will be re-evaluated for district
accreditation once every five years by a SACS CASI Quality Assurance Team.
