MUSCOGEE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Sick Leave Bank

The Sick Leave Bank was established to assist employees who have exhausted their sick and vacation leave due to a catastrophic illness.  It is not administered by MCSD; it is governed and operated by the employees of the district. An employee can become a member of the SLB by making a one-day, one-time donation of sick leave.  (The employee must meet the eligibility requirements as stated on the application form.)  If there is a high volume of withdrawals by members, an additional day of sick leave could be requested.  Last year, the SLB approved the requests of over 25 employees to continue full pay while on personal sick leave, with a total of $157,773.28.

Some employees choose not to join the SLB because they have short term disability coverage; however, some employees with short term disability coverage join the SLB because they recognize the benefits to other employees who cannot afford to pay the premium for short term disability coverage but continue to have financial obligations. The SLB makes it possible for someone in great need to be awarded up to 60 days of pay.

Qualified employees can join during the open enrollment period through December 31, 2007. If you are currently a member and wish to remain a member, there is no action necessary on your part. Your membership automatically renews for another year, unless you cancel. You may cancel your membership using the membership form. To verify that you are still a member, please contact your location secretary. There is a list available at each location showing current membership.

If you have recently qualified to become a Sick Leave Bank member and wish to enroll, please do so by using the membership form. Please carefully study the plan before making your decision.  A copy of the plan is available at each location. You are ineligible to receive Sick Leave Bank days if you have short-term disability coverage or if you are receiving or entitled to receive workers compensation, long-term disability benefits, or any other form of entitlements.

If you have any questions about the Sick Leave Bank, contact your supervisor or Cenobia Moore (706-748-2660 or cmoore@mcsdga.net), Chair of the Sick Leave Bank.
