Anthony Ellington of Plant Services is the
November winner of the ABCD Award.
During the November Board meeting, Dr. Billy Kendall, Chief Assistant
to the Superintendent, presented him with a plaque and
introduced him to the Board.
FROM THE NOMINATION DOCUMENT:
Anthony Ellington is part of the awesome custodial team at
Mathews Elementary. He goes above and beyond the call of duty in
beautifying the grounds at Mathews. During any season you will
find touches of beauty over the campus placed there by Mr.
Ellington. There is a comfortable reading nook in the lush
greenery. Splashes of color greet one upon entering the
building. There are areas all around the building where you
might see a trellis or a statue of a child surrounded by flowers
brightening the day. You can look out a classroom window and see
a butterfly garden. No one asks him to do this. As a Master
Gardner, his green thumb calls him to do this. Without ever
looking for any thanks, he makes the place where we learn and
work a pleasure. This quiet impact of service and love makes a
huge difference for everyone at Mathews. This kind of service
would be cost prohibitive.
In addition to the excellent gardening that he has done at
Mathews, he has been a guest speaker in classes. Last year, he
taught the fourth grade a lesson on the ecosystem, using an
aquarium and fish he brought in. He has been a dedicated and
committed employee of MCSD for 11 years, and his contributions
go far above and beyond the call of duty.
