Lorrie Watt
of Dimon
Wins the
May ABCD Award
“Above and Beyond
the Call of Duty”
|
Lorrie Watt, the media specialist at Dimon, is the recipient
of the May ABCD Award. During the May meeting, she was recognized by
the Board.
FROM THE NOMINATION FORM
Lorrie Watt is undoubtedly one of Muscogee County School District’s best
kept secrets. She is always thinking of others, never “tooting her own
horn.” Respected and loved by the children at Dimon, the staff, and the
community, she has committed her life to those around her. She works to
promote technology throughout the school and the Accelerated Reader Program
for students, which culminates with a bowling trip each year that she
organizes.
She coordinates the “Book Parade,” which allows each class to create a
“float” depicting their favorite book. Also, she organizes the after-school
club called “Cup-Stacking.”
As the school’s biggest promoter of reading, she has secured
many well-known authors and illustrators to speak to the students--such as
Steven Kellogg and David Greenburg--to encourage students to become great
writers as well. These activities have helped to improve the school’s
reading scores and the students’ self-esteem.
Her love of the community is echoed by their love for her.
She has served them well by organizing canned food drives, presenting gifts
to the crossing guards in recognition of their hard work, and assisting
families in need at Thanksgiving and Christmas. All of these things are done
with a smile and a quiet nature that make her one of the most respected
members of the Dimon family. She is a “Go-Getter” with the attitude that if
it can be done, it will get done! That is Lorrie Watt, the Media Specialist,
at Dimon Magnet Academy.
