The winner of the September ABCD Award is Ruth Anthony, Nutrition Manager at
Forrest Road Elementary. During the September meeting of the Board of
Education, she was introduced by Dr. Billy Kendall, Administrative Assistant
to the Superintendent.
According to her nomination form, Ruth Anthony is an excellent manager and
very enthusiastic about the program and her job. She has been employed by
MCSD since 1990. She routinely finds special ways to market the program by
doing special promotions and activities for the children in addition to
feeding them each day. She takes the students on virtual adventures such as
picnics and camping trips by preparing special menu items and decorating the
cafeteria for that particular theme. During heart week, she set the tables
with red table cloths and special center pieces, as well as, preparing a
colorful dessert for the students. The entire staff dresses up for the
holidays to make lunch more festive.
She communicates to the principal when orders do not come in and there
are changes in the menu so those changes can be made known via morning
announcements. She works very hard to provide nutritious meals for all of
the students, faculty, and staff. She makes sure that no child leaves the
cafeteria hungry.
When she was first given a computer to do her work at school, she was not
proficient on using the computer so she purchased her own and learned how to
use it on her own time. She maintains excellent records and accountability
reports. She has excellent customer service skills and trains her staff to
treat the customers with respect.
