The recipient of the April ABCD Award, Patrick Knopf,
a speech and language pathologist at 30th Avenue School, was
introduced to the Board during the March meeting by Peggy West, Director of
the Program for Exceptional Students.
Patrick Knopf has been a leader in the speech/language
Inclusion model and has worked closely with the State Department of
Education Programs for Exceptional Students to provide rich language
experiences in the regular curriculum classroom. This initiative gives all
students entering kindergarten an opportunity to achieve prior to any identification
of a disability.
He also works closely with the implementation of Clarity,
the IEP program used in Programs for Exceptional Students. He has been
an integral member of the team for training and implementation during this first
year of rollout to pilot schools. He does all of this in addition to his
duties and responsibilities as a speech/language pathologist at 30th Avenue
for the STEPS program. His willingness to serve and learn does not stop
within the school district. He attends Auburn University to continue his
quest for information and to pursue a higher degree. According to Peggy
West, his supervisor, he exhibits
the characteristics of a teacher leader among leaders. His willingness to go
above and beyond what is expected is exhibited daily in not only his actions
but his continuous positive attitude, his ethics, and his support of his
colleagues and administrators.
