The recipient of the February ABCD Award, Draveious Hurston-White,
a Special Education Paraprofessional at Shaw, was
introduced to the Board during the February meeting by Don Cooper, Chief
Human Resources Officer.
Draveious Hurston-White is a Special Education
Paraprofessional at Shaw High School. He has been employed with Muscogee
County School District for four years. He moved from Blackmon Road Middle
School to Shaw High School just to be with the students he had previously
worked with. He is the only Paraprofessional who works in the Special
Education Department at Shaw. He assists eight other teachers with grading
and other paperwork. Never a day goes by that he does not ask, “Is
there anything I can do for you?” He not only enjoys working with Special
Education, but in other areas of the school as well. He is the Color Guard
instructor for Shaw and the choreographer for the Shaw Cheerleading Squad.
He helps with Prom and the Military Ball. All of these extra things are not
part of his regular duties and responsibilities. He does them without pay
and for the students. He always has a huge smile on his face, and when he is
absent, everyone knows. He is working on certification in Middle
Grades Education.
