“Above and Beyond the Call of Duty”

“Above and Beyond the Call of Duty”

Connie Fennell, a paraprofessional at Columbus High School, was recognized at the February Board meeting as the winner of the ABCD Award.  She is pictured above (right) with her principal, Susan Bryant, who wrote the following nomination letter:

For the past six years Connie Fennell has served as a CHS computer lab technician. She works and supports our entire school in numerous ways. She is extremely dedicated and committed and displays a genuine interest in our students and is supportive of teachers, students, and administrators, taking on many tasks beyond her job description. Although she works at K-Mart after a full day at CHS, she arrives at school each morning energetic, upbeat, and ready to give 150% toward a productive day. In addition to her responsibilities in the computer lab, Connie assigns lockers to the 1300 students and maintains an up-to-date database throughout the year. At school inventory time, she assists the school administration in gathering the information and maintaining a database. She is often found answering the school phone, delivering messages, and creating invitations for school events. She has developed a database for the humanities teachers listing the 300 seniors, their projects and community mentor, along with the three judges assigned to these 300 students. This was a huge undertaking on her part.

Her devotion to CHS is evidenced daily through her thoughtful deeds. She remembers and celebrates most everyone’s birthday with goodies and cards. She also has a special place in her heart for the 60 special needs students. On special occasions, such as Valentine’s Day, she creates computerized coloring books for each child. Connie has a unique gift which enables her to balance a strong work ethic with her genuine love for people. Always positive, helpful, and loyal, she leaves heart prints wherever she goes--that is her gift to all at Columbus High School. Her kindness, loyalty, and willingness to give so much of herself to students, teachers, and school make her worthy of the ABCD Award.
