“Above and
Beyond the Call of Duty”
Rose Spears, custodian at St. Elmo, has been
recognized as the ABCD Award Winner for the Custodial Department of the
Muscogee County School District. She is employed at St. Elmo and has been
with the school district for 6 years. She is pictured above with her
supervisor, Dr. Susan Squiers, as Dr. Billy Kendall, Assistant to the
Superintendent, presents her to the Board of Education during the November
meeting.
According to Dr. Susan Squiers, Ms. Spears is
an exceptional custodian. She does all the things expected of a custodian:
she sweeps, dusts, mops, washes windows, and cleans tables. She performs
these chores with minimal supervision. In addition, she helps the faculty by
cutting out letters, laminating material, putting up bulletin boards, and
arranging furniture. For several years she has made the St. Elmo cafeteria
into a Christmas Wonderland using paper, milk containers, and her
imagination. "There is no way this transformation could happen without
Rose Spears," says Dr. Squiers. "Her heart is in helping others and making
our building special for the children."
