Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What do I need to get my GED? You will need to come to Tillinghurst and speak with our Intake Specialist or GED Examiner.
  2. How long will it take me to get my GED? The length of time necessary to get a GED depends on a student’s knowledge upon entering the GED program.
  3. I am 16, why can’t I just take the GED? The state requires underage students to attend classes and be recommended by Adult Education instructors before being allowed to take the test.
  4. Can I take the GED if my parents give me permission? Parent permission is required for underage students along with Adult Education instructor recommendation.
  5. I am 16/17, why can’t I go to Columbus Tech or Daniel? Underage students attend Tillinghurst.
  6. My child only needs one credit to graduate, why does he/she need classes instead of taking the GED? The state requires underage students to attend classes before being allowed to take the GED.
  7. My son is taking college prep classes’; can’t he just take the GED even though he is 17? The state requires underage students to attend classes before being allowed to take the GED.
  8. If I am home schooled, why do I have to take GED prep classes? The state requires underage students to attend classes before being allowed to take the GED.
  9. I failed the science part of the graduation test Can I take the science part of the GED test and still get my high school diploma? The GED program is through Adult Education not high school.
  10. How much does it cost to take the GED classes? There is no charge for the GED classes.
  11. Do I have to take all parts of the GED test or can I take one at a time? Students have the option to take part or all of the GED test at one time.
  12. How much does it cost to take part of the GED? There are five parts to the GED test.  Each test cost $19.
  13. I need a copy of my GED. How do I get a copy of it? Contact the GED Examiner for information regarding necessary forms.
  14. Do you have daycare? No, Adult Education does not provide daycare, however there is a Head Start program at the Tillinghurst location. Please contact Head Start if you qualify for childcare.
  15. Do you provide transportation? Adult Education does not provide transportation, however we have multiple locations that are near public transportation.
  16. What’s the next step after getting my GED – college, career, both? Come by ONE STOP (Room 7 at Tillinghurst) to get your application completed for college.
