SUPERINTENDENT GIVES EXECUTIVE BRIEFING
TO BUSINESS LEADERS
Business leaders from profit and non-profit sectors of Columbus heard the
Superintendent of Education, Dr. John A. Phillips, Jr., as he highlighted
academic progress in the Muscogee County School District. Addressing
the audience at a luncheon held on Thursday, February 7, 2008, Dr. Phillips
focused on the district’s mission, vision, and action goals.
The following trends in education for the school district were among
those covered:
- Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
- Curricular Initiatives
- Recap of the 1997 and 2003 SPLOST
- Current and Future Academic Programs
- Graduation Rate and Test Scores
- SACS Accreditation and Other Recognitions
Dr. Phillips says, “I am proud that more than ninety-two percent of
school age children in Columbus attend schools in the Muscogee County School
District. Our educators, parents, community businesses, organizational
leaders, and volunteers have been great supporters of our students and
education programs that will help foster future leaders in our community.”
